My sleeping habits are always something I’m working on but I’ve been thinking about my other habits too. Every day I get up and the first thing I do is walk my dog, it’s good for him for obvious reasons and it’s good for me. It sets me up for the day with some mild exercise and fresh air which helps my fatigue pass, I listen to some good music that calms my anxiety and nothing puts me in a better mood than my dog. I do this everyday except from on a Saturday. I see Saturdays as my ‘relaxing morning’ to sleep a bit more before training so I let my dad walk him instead, but I’ve realised this mentality isn’t serving me. It can cause me to rush around/ get to training late/ up my anxiety due to stress which then affects my lifting and how I feel when training starts. I want to do well in my training and enjoy my “Super Saturday” with everyone so why wouldn’t I walk my dog beforehand if I know it’s a habit that serves me? This may seem like a very obvious & easy thing to fix but i genuinely hadn’t thought about it until we sat down after training a few weeks ago and discussed what we could do better both inside and outside of our training. It made me think how interesting it is that we can be so consistent with our habits and what we know works for us yet sometimes let this falter at the weekends because we see it as our ‘day off’. We may not always realise how the simple everyday things can affect us, especially when we skip them. I’m all for relaxing and having a day off- especially at the weekend but If I know I have everyday habits that work for me then I should just continue to do it.
